Supporting people facing life-threatening illness: Volunteer with the Brigitte Trust this September
- When cancer, or any life-threatening illness, is diagnosed it can be really hard to share the emotional burden – especially to family. A Brigitte Trust volunteer visits weekly, building a relationship and the chance to share time together as well as offering practical help like transport, shopping or the chance to get out of the house for a break – for the person who is ill as well as for their carer. Having time together on a regular basis with someone outside the family circle can make a real difference and lighten the load. A free training course for volunteers is running this September with taster sessions during July where you are invited to come and meet us. Please call Ingrid on 01306 881816 and visit

A CONCERT BY THE LADYBIRDS CHOIR DIRECTED BY HELENA TWENTYMAN
SATURDAY 22nd JUNE at 3pm
The Ladybirds Choir will be evoking various musical memories at their summer concert on Saturday 22nd June. Tribute will be paid to the charming and vivacious Carol Channing, who died earlier this year at the age of 97, and you will hear several songs from
which famously starred Carol. Another artist featured will be Buddy Holly (who died 60 years ago) and some of his best-known songs, including “Oh Boy!” and “True Love Ways,” will be sung. The choir has also decided to mark the Rugby World Cup, which kicks off in September this year, by singing some of the rousing anthems you may hear ringing out round the stadiums during matches – songs along the lines of “Swing low, sweet chariot” and “Bread of heaven” rather than the rude ones, you’ll be relieved to hear! This year the Ladybirds Choir is delighted to be raising funds for The Concert Club, originally called The Jane Ross Club, which was set up over fifty years ago and provides monthly social events on Wednesday evenings for visually impaired adults and the elderly in Le
atherhead Parish Church Hall. The Concert Club is hoping to increase its membership so if you know of anyone who might be interested in going, please contact Sam Spooner for more information
, 01372 289048 or 07970 581327). In the meantime, please join us on 22nd June to share Musical Memories and enjoy tea and cake after the concert. Tickets are priced at £7.50 and are available on the door or in advance from Jenny Abbott on 01737 843662
